Lindner ERNI "Schon" Hinge Mark Remover is registered with the German Environmental Office in Berlin.
Manufacturer's Use and Handling Instructions:
How to use:
Check whether the marks are actually hinge marks. Remove any residue of hinge or gum (use
Lindner ERNI Stamp Gum Remover
). Treatment of water-sensitive and non colourfast stamps not recommended. Pour ERNI hinge mark solvent in dish. Only submerge one stamp at a time in the solution. During the process turn stamp frequently using tweezers. In most cases ERNI hinge gum solvent has the desired effect. If the hinge gum has seeped through into the stamp, the print colour may have been changed and may fade when using ERNI hinge gum solvent. (We accept no liability). After 45 minutes, remove from solution. Rinse stamp in water dish then dry as usual. If the stamp or the solution change colour, exchange the liquid. ERNI hinge gum solvent should neither be mixed nor diluted.
General note:
Immediately dispose of any garments which may have been in contact with the solution. If inhaled, get fresh air and consult a doctor in case of symptoms. In case of skin contact: Immediately wash out with soap and water, rinse well. In case of eye irritation: Rinse well for several minutes under running water with eye lids open and consult a doctor. If swallowed: Immediately consult a doctor.

I found the following information on the internet which you may find useful:
Gday
I've got a number of stamps from the 1930s & 40s with nasty brown marks
from various evil hinges of the period, many of them showing through to
the front. Does anyone know a successful method for cleaning them off,
preferably while keeping the gum on the mint stamps. I have seen a
product in the Lindner range that claims to remove marks from "Schon
hinges" but I haven't got a clue what Schon hinges are so that's less
than helpful. Naturally, the only stamps with these marks are the
decent ones with a cat value of - so I am not all that willing
to experiment with mineral turpentine, boiling water, vodka and all the
other miracle cleaners out there. Maybe the vodka....
Hi!
The two "Erni"- liquids from Lindner do work very well.
What in german is called "Schonfalz", are those lausy brownish hinges
from the 30s.
