This is a gem of a tool that can pull out even the smallest of hairs.
These hair pluckers are carefully made by hand by Mr. Kurata, a skilled hair plucker. The tips of the blades are so perfectly aligned that no light can penetrate them when viewed in the light, so even downy hairs as small as five thousandths of a millimeter can be firmly grasped and lightly removed. This type is ideal for cleaning eyebrows, and is made of 2mm thick material.
Kurata's handmade hair pluckers are made by painstakingly beating with a hammer hundreds of times. Hand hammering increases the density of the metal structure and strength, resulting in a hair clipper with a moderate spring.
The third generation, Mr. Yoshiyuki Kurata, who makes these hairpins, is a master craftsman who received the "Traditional Craftsmanship Award" from Arakawa Ward in 1997 and the Tokyo Governor's Award from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2008. He is the only craftsman who has inherited the Edo Hontei Hair Extractor technique, which is currently being passed on to the fourth generation, Mr. Satoshi Kurata.
The "Edo Honteuchi Hairpins" are based on the hairpins that have been used by common people since the Muromachi period (1333-1573), and have been revived in the modern age by utilizing the Edo Honteuchi technique. This is an excellent product that can be used for a long time and will last a lifetime.
